What it means
Acute is a medical word for something recent or sudden, not something severe. No acute findings says the radiologist saw no sign of a new or urgent problem. Examples are fresh bleeding, a recent fracture, a new stroke or an active infection. You will see it often in emergency scans, where the first question is whether anything needs treatment right away.
When it matters
It is reassuring, but it is not the same as completely normal. The report may still list chronic findings, meaning long-standing ones such as wear and tear, old scars or a cyst. These usually need no urgent action. Some early problems, like a stroke in its first hours, may not show on CT yet. If symptoms continue or change, your doctor may arrange more tests.
Questions to ask your doctor
- Which findings in my report are chronic, and do any need follow-up?
- Was the scan done early enough to show what my doctor was looking for?
- If my symptoms continue, what should the next step be?
